Nan’s birthday (almost here)
Posted by samsynn on Jan 15, 2008
Wow - wasn’t expecting the huge turnout for Nan’s birthday dinner this coming Saturday. Not that it’s a bad thing by any stretch, but you know how you invite lots of people and think that maybe half will be able to come? Well we’re at 22 people attending. Nan will be making the reservation today (so the time may change a little bit based on that). She’ll also be asking them about separate checks in advance so that we can make this a little easier for the staff. (If you want to bring cash to make things easier it may not be a bad idea).
The next fun part will be when we have to get 22 people to agree on 2 appetizers, 2 salads, 2 pastas, 2 dinners and 2 desserts. Hmmmm….
I’ve had a few questions about what people should get Nan. Nobody is believing me that she would LOVE a new XBOX360 (and that includes Nan!). Nan is being difficult and can’t even tell our moms what she would like. Her comment is that “your presence is your present” so take that as you will. See you all on Saturday!
Nan’s birthday… (coming soon)

Just a quick heads up to those of you in town… Nan’s birthday is coming up on the 22nd - I’m still trying to figure out a good place for dinner (one that will take reservations for a large party). Most likely the dinner will be over MLK weekend (sometime between Friday the 18th and Sunday the 20th - most likely the Saturday night).
If anyone can think of a good place, Nan and I are open to suggestions. Evites should be going out sometime soon as well.
This is your brain on…

no, not drugs - just completely fried from the past week.
Vegas was pretty cool - only down a bit from blackjack (darn that Armenian dealer) and 3-card poker (which I don’t even know why I tried again) - well within my “allowance”. Spent part of a day at the “Star Trek Experience” at the Las Vegas Hilton (picture of me in Captain Picard’s chair on the bridge coming soon!) and geeked out pretty hard. We stayed at the Luxor - which wasn’t bad other than the crappy Internet connection and the fact you have to walk about a mile to get to a monorail station for the conference. My feet hurt so bad by the end of the first day, thanks to a lot of walking since Ryan didn’t pack anything warm (great job former weatherman!)
By the time I had finally adjusted to the time zone change it was back on the plane to SoFla. My body still hasn’t adjusted to where I can fall asleep before 2 am, although that may have to do with the energy drinks I’ve been pounding (Jolt Blue Raspberry FTW) to get through the past few days.
Speaking of the last few days - I’m just about ready to take the PMP exam, although I’ll be taking it in early January so that I have an extra year in which to earn PDUs for recertification. The cram session was very helpful - and I’m glad I was in the weekend class this semester instead of the Tuesday/Thursday class - I think we had the better instructor and group. Fortunately I didn’t get audited on my application so I can schedule it this week.
Friday night at the Mai Kai was ok - not crazy about their wine selection and we didn’t stay for the show since I had to get up early on Saturday. Saturday was exciting as Superman Tim Tebow became the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy (not to mention the latkes and other yummy food at Rob & Erika’s). Finally - last night was Chanukah dinner at mom-in-law’s).
Now that I’ve caught up at work (after being out for all of last week) - can I take a nap? Please?
Thanksgiving and more…

Quite the busy long weekend…
- My sister, brother-in-law, nephew, and niece came in for the holidays. Got to see them a lot (just about every day I think between Tuesday and Sunday). Can’t believe how big they’re getting (the kids, not my sister and her husband)
- We had the naming for my niece during Shabbat services this Saturday. Nan and I (as godparents) also got called up to open the ark at one point). I’d forgotten how long a full Shabbat service can be, but it was kind of nice to actually go for a change.
- Got free tickets to the Florida Panthers - NY Rangers hockey game Friday night. I hadn’t been to a hockey game since before the strike and it was actually a good game - went into overtime and then a shoot-out, with the Panthers winning in the end.
- LOTS of football - highlighted by both a Gators win on Sat. and a come-from-behind Bears miracle on Sunday. Nan can’t wait until football season is over.
- My last class (thankfully) for my Project Management Professional certification is this Saturday. It’s been a good class, but I’m really ready for it to be over. The cram weekend (all day Friday through Sunday) the following weekend is going to SUCK though.
- Looking forward to next week too - 4 days in Las Vegas for work (yeah - work, right) right before that cram weekend. I think my brain will be fried by mid-December.
- Speaking of the Gators win - by Sunday we should know which bowl they’re going to - hopefully either the Capital One (in Orlando) or the Outback (in Tampa) so that Nan and I (and maybe Rob) can go - it’s been 2 years since the last game I’ve been to.
- And in a really geeky item - WoW Arena Season 3 starts tomorrow. Maybe if some people eventually level to 70 we can get a 5v5 team together already.
