April Fools from Warcraft

Posted by samsynn on Apr 1, 2008

I’m not great at planning or executing April Fools jokes, but it’s always fun to see others. Each year Blizzard puts up some fake news items/plans for World of Warcraft. This years are pretty funny.

Harry Potter 8th Movie?

Article here

I guess it’s a pretty good idea the more I think about it. I’m still wondering how they plan on doing Book 6 (since most of the important stuff is exposition and flashback to set up Book 7), but at least this means that there won’t be anything “missing” from the last movie.

Edit - It will be interesting to see how they do the 19 years later epilogue too - can you end the movie with different actors playing them?

Interesting read from Cracked.com…

What is the monkeysphere?

Getting better…

Posted by samsynn on Feb 13, 2008

It looks like I’ve gotten through the worst of it.  My head is much better and the puffiness around the eyes has gone away.  My eyes are still a little itchy and my throat is a little sore still, but I think that should be better by tomorrow as well.  Dayquil/Nyquil regimen has seemed to work.

Now if it would just stop raining (since that never helps).

And it better not rain this weekend - it looks like Sunday is the day for the Ren-fest.  Not sure what time we’re planning on heading out there, but definitely in time for lunch and then a few shows.   After not leaving the house much last weekend I’m looking forward to getting out a bit.

I hate being sick…

Posted by samsynn on Feb 11, 2008

It doesn’t happen all that often, but this past weekend I’ve just been achy and miserable.  It started Friday with a headache that continued through the weekend.  By Saturday morning my sinuses were blocked up and slowly pushing my eyes out the front of my head.  It got a little bit better by last night but seems to be back in full force today.

While Nan had a busy weekend (yoga class, Greek festival), I stayed in as much as possible.  I did a lot of Warcraft playing, watched the first half of Flags of our Fathers (not as good as Letters from Iwo Jima), all of Casino Royale (although in 2 sittings) and a bunch of Star Trek: TNG episodes.

It looks like we’re thinking of this Sunday (2/17) for the Ren-Fest at Quiet Waters.  Let me know if you’re in.

Also - Howieopolis has reached 50 population, so I am going to start adding some industry to the city!  Keep visiting the site (as well as Chardoville, Pharrisburg, Bingo-Valley, and Chandtopia).

Ren Fest 08

Posted by samsynn on Feb 5, 2008

Ok - Ren-Fest is back at Quiet Waters Park.  It’s running every weekend from February 9 to March 9.

Who’s interested?

Which weekend is best for you?

Is Saturday or Sunday better?

Myminicity Alliance?

It was suggested by James that now that I’ve got people creating these mini-cities, I should post all the links in one place. That way we can all help each other grow. If you’ve got one and want to be added to the list - here we are so far:

Howieopolis

Bingo-valley

Pharrisburg

Chandtopia

Chardoville

and my sworn enemy - Turnerities(which is already at the industry stage)

The numbers are back…

if only for half a season, Lost is back. Great episode last night (which I can’t discuss here since Nan hasn’t watched it yet). We had recorded it since we were at the Shapiro household for dinner, but she was sleepy by the time we got home. Being me - I had to watch it and then start combing the Internet today.

I’m not sure why I never watched these, but there are 12 (soon to be 13) “webisodes” available on ABC.com (link here). I’m watching them at work today (now that I finally figured out that there’s a headset port on the back of my monitor). The 13th one I was able to find here - and that one just blows my mind!

And don’t forget to keep visiting Howieopolis and keep the city growing.

Howie-opolis???

So this site is going around work this week (for those of us bored enough).  It looks like you create a city and more visitors to your site results in city growth.  My poor city has only 1 population so far :(

(As a side note, we have already declared war on Ryan’s city).

Come on over!

She survived!

Nan actually made it through the entire FX show on Saturday without getting too freaked-out/geeked-out.  We were a little late getting on the road but got there just in time for the majority of the Heroes panel with Greg Grunberg, Steven Tobolowski, and George Takei (oh my!).  It’s easy to tell that Takei has been doing this for years (I think he was at the very first Trek Convention I went to 20 years ago with Rob) although some of his stories go on forever.   After a little bit of shopping to kill time, we hit the autograph area.  Just about everyone was charging so we had to pick and choose, but we got most of the ones we had wanted.  Among the favorites (for me) were Ellen Muth (Dead Like Me), Tara Strong (who pulled out her iPhone to show Nan pics from San Diego Comic Con urging “you HAVE to go!”), and Nathan Fillion (I now have both his and Gina Torres’ sigs on a Serenity poster - only 7 more to go!)  Nan also enjoyed meeting Nicholas Brendon and Greg Grunberg, both of whom signed DVDs that went back into our season sets.  Both of them also donate a portion of the money they get to charities, which made it easier to choose them.

As for our least favorite, surprisingly - Adam West.  First of all, you don’t find out how much he’s charging until you’re in front of him, and then you find out he’s charging double (at least) what the others are. And at that point, I wasn’t going to be an ass and tell him that was too much.  He also won’t sign anything other than a headshot unless it’s personalized (so you don’t sell it) and (from what I hear) may charge more based on how valuable he thinks the item would be if sold.  Should have skipped him and gone to meet Laura Vandervoort (Kara on Smallville) instead.

Also picked up some great DVD sets there including the original Batman TV show and a set of the old Dean Martin roasts for Nan.  All in all a pretty good time.  Just wish there were more panels to keep us there longer.  Nan was already asking me to check who’s going to be at the next one (although I doubt we’ll go).

The rest of the weekend was pretty relaxing.  Took my mom shopping for a new laptop since she dropped hers (again) this week and then watched some TV.  Nan was wishing that there was football on yesterday afternoon, but that was just so that she would have “an excuse to go take a nap”.
